In England the How to Rent guide must be provided at the start of a tenancy and again when a materially updated version is published, for tenancies where it applies. Under the new framework it is being replaced by updated prescribed information for tenancies from 2026.
Practical guidance
- Serve the version current on the day the tenancy starts and record which one.
- Email is acceptable only if the tenant agreed to service by email.
- Keep the PDF you sent, not just a link.
