Since 2020, landlords in England must have electrical installations inspected at least every five years and act on any remedial work identified.
Getting an EICR
Use a qualified electrician registered with a recognised competent person scheme to inspect the fixed wiring and installation.
Understanding the codes
C1 and C2 codes mean danger present or potentially present and must be remedied urgently; C3 is an improvement recommendation, not mandatory.
Remedial work deadlines
Any C1 or C2 finding must be fixed within 28 days, or sooner if the report specifies an earlier date.
Supplying the report
Give a copy to tenants within 28 days of the inspection and to the council within 7 days if requested.
