Overview
Consent to let is temporary permission from a residential mortgage lender to rent out the property without switching to a buy-to-let product. It is common for accidental landlords. Letting without it breaches the mortgage conditions and may invalidate insurance.
Legal requirements
- Notify your insurer as well as your lender — standard home insurance does not cover a let property.
Practical guidance
- Get consent in writing and note any conditions on the tenancy type or term.
