Overview
Only a Gas Safe registered engineer may install, service or check gas appliances and issue the annual landlord gas safety record. Using an unregistered person is a criminal offence and invalidates the certificate.
Legal requirements
- Annual gas safety checks are required by the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.
- A copy must be given to tenants within 28 days of the check and to new tenants before they move in.
Practical guidance
- Check the engineer's ID card and the appliances listed on it before work starts.
