Overview

Prescribed information sets out the scheme used, the deposit amount, the property address, the landlord's and tenant's contact details, how the deposit can be reclaimed and the dispute procedure. It must be served within 30 days of receiving the deposit, along with the scheme's leaflet.

Legal requirements

  • Serve within 30 days of receiving the deposit, on the tenant and any relevant person who paid it.
  • Failure exposes the landlord to a penalty of one to three times the deposit.

Practical guidance

  • Keep proof of service — signed acknowledgement or dated email — for the life of the tenancy.
