Overview
The English quarter days — 25 March, 24 June, 29 September and 25 December — are still used for some ground rents and commercial arrangements. Residential rent is almost always monthly or weekly in advance, and the rent period determines notice periods for a periodic tenancy.
Legal requirements
- The rent period fixes when a periodic tenancy's notices can expire.
Practical guidance
- State the rent day and frequency clearly in the agreement — it drives reminders and arrears calculations.
