Overview
Where rent is payable weekly, the landlord must provide a rent book containing prescribed information. Failure is a criminal offence carrying a fine. For monthly tenancies there is no rent book duty, but a written rent statement is good practice.
Legal requirements
- Required by section 4 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 for weekly tenancies.
Practical guidance
- A digital rent statement issued regularly satisfies tenants and supports arrears claims.
